How stock actually works at a breakers
A breakers yard is not a warehouse, and anyone showing you a permanent VW catalogue is not really a breaker.
What we have is whatever has come through the gate recently. A vehicle arrives, it gets depolluted and dismantled, and the good parts go on the shelf. A part that is there on the Monday can be gone by the Wednesday, and the VW that arrives next week decides what we can offer the week after.
So we would rather you rang and got a straight answer in a minute than scrolled a list that might be months out of date. If we have not got it, we will say so.

Engine codes, and why we ask for the reg
More used VW parts go back for being the wrong unit than for being faulty, and it is nearly always the same cause.
Volkswagen identify engines and gearboxes by a three or four letter code, not by the engine size on the back of the car. Two 2.0 TDI Golfs of the same year can carry different codes, and a unit with the wrong code will not always fit. Where it does fit, it will not always run right.
The registration gives us the code. It takes a minute to check, and it is the difference between a part that goes straight in and a part that comes back.
Scrapping a VW instead?
That is the side of the yard we are strongest on. Any age, any condition, running or not, no keys, no MOT, no problem. Free collection within 40 miles and paid the same day.
A VW that still starts and drives is worth more to us than the same one that does not, because the engine and gearbox go on the shelf rather than in the crusher.

- Ring and ask, because it depends entirely on what has come through the yard recently. We break vehicles as they arrive rather than holding a fixed catalogue, so VW stock changes week to week. Give us the registration and we will go and look rather than guess.
- Why can you not just list everything you have got?
- Because a breakers yard is not a warehouse. Stock is whatever came in that week, it is dismantled as it is needed, and a part that is on the shelf on Monday can be gone by Wednesday. Any yard showing you a permanent VW catalogue is either buying stock in or listing things it has to go and find. We would rather tell you honestly on the phone.
- Why do you need the registration rather than the model?
- Because Volkswagen identify engines and gearboxes by a three or four letter code rather than by engine size, and they change components mid model run. Two 2.0 TDI Golfs of the same year can take different units. The registration gives us the code, and it is the only way to be certain a part will fit before you commit to it.
- Will you buy my VW for scrap?
- Yes. Cars, vans and everything up to a 7.5 tonner, any age and any condition, running or not. Free collection within 40 miles of Rochdale and payment the same day by bank transfer. If it still starts and drives, tell us, because that is worth more than the metal.
- Do you deliver parts?
- Next day anywhere in the UK on stock items, and we ship internationally through DHL and FedEx. Or collect from the counter at Rochdale, Monday to Friday 9 to 5 and Saturday 9 to 3.
